Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 5, 2026
The short version
Everything personal about your vows stays on your iPhone. Vowlock has no account system, and the sensitive material the app works with never leaves your device: the apps you block, the video and audio pleas you record, your captured heart rate, and your vow history. What does leave your device is limited to anonymous purchase records and anonymous usage statistics, described below.
Data that stays on your device
- Blocked app selections. Vowlock uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) technology. Your selection is stored as opaque system tokens on your device. By Apple's design, Vowlock cannot read the names of the apps you pick, and the selection is never transmitted anywhere.
- Plea recordings. The camera and microphone are used only during the seal and break rituals to record your plea and show you a live mirror. Recordings are stored only on your device and are never uploaded.
- Heart rate captures, vow history, and insights. Stored only on your device.
Data that is collected
- Purchases. If you buy Vowlock Plus, our payment infrastructure provider RevenueCat processes the App Store receipt to unlock your purchase, identified only by a random anonymous ID. We do not receive your name, Apple ID, or payment details; Apple processes the payment itself.
- Usage analytics. We collect anonymous product events (for example, that a vow was sealed, without any of its content) through Amplitude and Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which features are used and to improve the app. These events are not linked to your identity.
- Ads measurement. If you install Vowlock after tapping an ad, we use Apple's SKAdNetwork and, only if you explicitly allow tracking in the iOS permission prompt, the device advertising identifier (IDFA) to measure which ad campaign brought you. If you decline the prompt, the identifier is not accessed. This is the only tracking in the app, and it tells us which ad brought you, nothing else.
What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never upload your recordings, your heart rate, your app selections, or the content of your vows.
- We never require an account or collect your name or email address.
Third parties
The processors above (Apple, RevenueCat, Amplitude, Google) each receive only the minimum described in this policy and act on our behalf. Their own policies: Apple, RevenueCat, Amplitude, Google.
Retention and your rights
On-device data lives until you delete a vow, delete its recordings, or remove the app. Anonymous analytics and purchase records are retained as long as needed for the purposes above. Because these records are not linked to your identity, we usually cannot look up "your" data, but if you contact us we will help with any access or deletion request to the extent the data can be identified.
Children
Vowlock is a self-control tool for people managing their own screen time and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date.
